After the breakup of the British punk rock band, Sex Pistols, singer John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) formed the avant-garde rock band Public Image Ltd in 1978. Known for fusing multiple musical styles and influencing a generation of musicians; its original lineup was John Lydon, Keith Levene, Jah Wobble and Jim Walker. John Lydon named the band after Muriel Spark’s novel, The Public Image. Famed photographer Dennis Morris designed the PiL (aspirin) logo. In 2013, Lydon received the BMI Icon Award for Songwriting.
