Save Barney from Newt

The feud between former Democratic Congressman Barney Frank and former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has been ongoing since 1987, when an aide for Gingrich outed a fellow Congressperson. Frank, the only openly gay member of Congress at the time, denounced such underhanded tactics. Barney v. Gingrich has carried into the twenty-first century, with Gingrich calling for Frank to be jailed for his ties to the mortgage industry in 2011. Later that year, Frank would comment that he "thought the 'Gingrich Group' were his wives," referring to Gingrich's multiple marriages.
