Additional Information | Swift’s Premium Milk Fed Chickens were the premium offering of another product line of the highly successful Chicago meat packing company Swift & Co. Founded in 1855 by Gustavus Franklin Swift, Swift & Co. moved into the chicken business in the early 20th century. These chickens were reported to have been fattened by buttermilk and grain for the last two weeks of their lives, by force if necessary, to produce a better bird. The company is still around somewhat today, but in a very different form, JBS, USA, the largest beef and pork processor in the world, based in Colorado. |
