Additional Information | The optimistic proverb encouraging someone to make the best of what they are given does not have a definitive origin. “He picked up the lemons that Fate had sent him and started a lemonade- stand” is the earliest and closest line to the proverb. This was written in an obituary by Elbert Hubbard about Marshall Pinckney Wilder in 1915. In 1948, the proverb we know today was found in a self-help book titled How To Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie. |
