Waupin is a school located in Wisconsin. In 1928, Waupin's school superintendent, Henry C. Wegner, was the secretary of the Wisconsin School Band Association and actively promoted Waupin in school band competitions. With Wisconsin leading the nation in school band growth, the years 1915 through 1935 were a time associated with the rise in school bands. The Wisconsin Boys Band Association, later called the Wisconsin School Music Association, promoted band competitions in the 1920's. Competitions evolved quickly with prizes awarded in gold and silver cups. The high school band movement required musical selections, sponsored girls competing in band (as early as 1922), and developed a classification system where experienced and novice bands competed separately.

The phrase, “Music Maintains Morale,” emerged in 1918 as a slogan for piano manufacturers and musicians to show their enthusiasm for war bonds. At this time, these manufacturers sold war bonds in their stores to show their support. The slogan was used in the New York Library Loan Concert at Carnegie Hall in 1918 as a demonstrative of the practical power of music, which went on to raise $4,302,000. The phrase referred to the idea that music roused latent patriotism and revived the spirits of listeners. Ads displayed the slogan to encourage Americans to buy liberty bonds as well pianos during WWI.

The slogan reemerged during 1942 when the theme was used to inspire morale among the American public during Music Week. Schools and churches had special programs to recognize the service that music rendered to listeners. Music shops and piano manufacturers once again featured the slogan in their ads during this time.

Magazine were an English post-punk band active from 1977 to 1981, then again from 2009 to 2011. The band was formed by Howard Devoto after leaving punk band Buzzcocks in early 1977. Devoto had decided to create a more progressive and less "traditional" rock band.

Magazine reunited in 2009 for a UK tour, with almost all the remaining members of the "classic" lineup, with the exception of guitarist John McGeoch, who died in 2004. He was replaced by Noko, who had played with Devoto in Luxuria. Magazine released an album of new material, No Thyself, in October 2011, followed by a short UK tour.

The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, or SPEBSQSA, is a society of barber shop or harmonizing quartet groups located in the United States. The society was founded by Owen Clifton Cash and Rupert I. Hall in 1938 when they had the idea to host a song festival for barber shop singers, a style of music that was slowly beginning to fade out of style. The two men invited twenty four other male singers to a meeting in Tulsa to discuss the festival, and the idea for the SPEBSQSA was born.

In 2004, the society changed its name to the Barbershop Harmony Society, or BHS. It now consists of more than 800 chapters and 38,000 members. Because the SPEBSQSA was originally a male-only club, a sister organization called Sweet Adeline’s was developed in 1945 for female quartet singers.
