Clayton, DE is a Census-Designated Place: a region that is recognized for census purposes but is not technically a town or a city. While the Lenape people have occupied the area since before 1200, the area saw population growth from colonization beginning in the 1600s. The region was dubbed Claymont in 1856 when a reverend from West Virginia settled in the area and renamed the settlement after his family’s plantation. “Telo mimetico” (camouflage cloth) was used for Italian tents and military uniforms starting in 1929. Variations on the pattern were used for military purposes through the 1990s. Fashion designers have made civilian clothing and accessories with camouflage prints throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries, changing up colors and scale for visual effect.

This is a poster image for the 1927 French silent film, Napoléon, directed by Abel Gance. It is widely praised as a breakthrough in cinematic innovation. At a time when most camera shots were fixed, this film was one of the first that made extensive use of fast cutting, close-ups, hand-held cameras, multiple camera angles, and other visual effects used today. 

The original 1927 music scores were by Arthur Honegger and Werner Heymann. In 1980, two further productions were accompanied by music from Carl Davis in the UK and Carmine Coppola in the US. The latter would be played live a year later at New York’s Radio City Music Hall.

The National Museum of African American History & Culture was established by Congress in 2003 and is dedicated solely to exploring African American history and culture. The museum—built by designer David Adjaye and architect Philip Freelon—opened to the public in 2016 and is located on the National Mall in Washington D.C.
