This button references not only Bernie Sanders's presidential campaign, but also John Lennon's famous song "Imagine," since some of the lyrics from "Imagine" correlate with Bernie's beliefs and hopes for America.

During the 2016 presidential election, Independent Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont ran as a Democrat in order to begin what he called a "political revolution." He ran his campaign on the idea of hope (one of his slogans being "a future to believe in)." Additionally, Sanders talked often about imagining a more equal country and world not only socially and politically, but, in particular, financially. He hoped this revolution would give average Americans a voice to change the future, express themselves, understand their importance in the world, and become more politically active. Sanders lost to Hillary Clinton in the final primary and Clinton went on to become the Democratic Nominee.

In 2006, incumbent Hillary Clinton ran for a second term as New York Senator, against Republican nominee John Spencer. Clinton did face some initial competition for the Democratic party nomination, largely based on the controversy surrounding the Iraq war. However, she ultimately became the nominee, and later won the Senate race in a landslide victory (83% of the total votes cast) against her opponent. Clinton is also known for being First Lady when her husband, Bill Clinton was President from 1993-2001, and later for becoming Secretary of State under the Obama administration from 2009-2013.

The 2016 election provided two of the most unpopular front runners in U. S. history, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Bernie Sanders however consistently topped the polls in popularity and his political campaign rallies broke numerous attendance records. He ran as a Democrat with a very socialist viewpoint. His presidential campaign suffered from a lack of fair news coverage. Sanders’ fundraising broke from the traditional. Instead of depending on funding from wealthy donors and PACs, Bernie looked to small donations from individuals. Social media was a large part of how Bernie ran his grassroots campaign. After his campaign ended he endorsed Hillary Clinton. He currently holds a seat as a United States Senator from Vermont.

President Bill Clinton, along with Vice President Al Gore, successfully ran for re-election in 1996 against Republican opponent Bob Dole and Reform Party candidate Ross Perot. The campaign was difficult, as the Democratic party had recently lost control of both the House and the Senate in the 1994 mid-term elections. However, Clinton was ultimately successful and became the first Democratic candidate to be re-elected to a second term after serving a full first term since Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

This button is from the Rolling Stones' 1989 tour, which promoted their Steel Wheels album. The tour ended a seven year touring drought, during which the band produced albums but didn't tour to promote them. It was also notable because they produced a live album (Flashpoint), hosted a live pay-per-view special during one of their performances, and was the last tour that featured founding bassist Bill Wyman.
