Direct Memory Access Systems are used in the modems of computers to allow some hardware subsystems to access the system memory without using the central processing unit. The DMA System essentially allows the computer to multitask. Furthermore DMA allows the copying or moving of large amounts of data within the memory of the computer. DMA ultimately allows for transfer of large blocks of data while freeing up the computer to continue to function. Without DMA channels the central processing unit would be fully occupied with any other read or write process. The data transfer process becomes faster and more easily executed with the DMA System. Floppy disks, which also store bits of memory, become unnecessary with the automatic transfer of data through the DMA System.

Additional Information

Sunkist® was first introduced as a soft drink in 1978 after extensive consumer research spanning two years, with intentions to compete with Fanta’s fruit flavored soft drink success.  The term “Sunkist” was originally trademarked by citrus growers in California and Arizona in 1893, when they founded Sunkist Growers Incorporated.  The Sunkist soft drink was cross-franchised by both Pepsi and Coca-Cola bottling companies, but never owned by either of the manufacturers.  Their first advertising campaign in 1978 featured television commercials featuring the Beach Boys’ 1966 hit, “Good Vibrations”.  The drink became the #1 selling orange-flavored soda pop sold in the U.S. by 1980.  The campaign was referenced in Marky Mark’s July 1991’s debut rap single as, “good vibrations like Sunkist”.  In 2007, the commercial was remade with the Gym Class Heroes’ cover of “Good Vibrations”.
