Many high schools, primary schools, and universities in the United States have extracurricular student councils modeled after democratic governments where students will campaign for office positions such as president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. The student body will vote on the candidates, and the elected officers of each year will complete specified or unspecified duties, such as planning school events, organizing fundraisers, and reforming school rules.

A senior student named Kevin ran for class treasurer in 2011 and aptly overlayed his face over an image of a US one-dollar bill for this campaign memorabilia.

The Capital Pride Festival and Concert is an annual event hosted by the Capital Pride Alliance to celebrate and raise awareness of the LGBTQ+ community. Held in Washington D.C., the festival aims to “educate, support, and inspire” those who belong to this diverse group through the power of entertainment. It represents one of the largest Pride events, with more than 400,000 attendees in 2019. At the festival, international and local LGBTQ+ talent take center stage to perform live music, and more than 300 organizations are present to provide networking opportunities. Headliners for the 2019 concert included Marshmello, Zara Larsson, and Todrick Hall, just to name a few.

In 2008, Burgundy Crescent Volunteers (BGV)—a LGBTQ+ community based in Washington D.C.—launched an environmentally friendly initiative in partnership with the Capital Pride Festival. Together, the two forces made recycling a priority by setting up bins throughout the festival to help attendees “recycle with pride.” BGV was hoping that concert-goers would pay attention to how they were disposing their waste and put in effort to make environmentally responsible choices.

Information

This poster accompanied an exhibition of buttons and pins (enamels in the UK) covering the diverse and historical scope of badges at the Midland Group (Arts Centre) Nottinghan in 1979. A UK (and maybe a World) first.

The exhibition poster was designed by Brian Love, a collector and contributor, and the exhibition was organised by Vinny Cleary, another collector and contributor.

Many other individuals loaned items as did a number of badge companies including Tantra, Fattorini and Better Badges.

It was comprehensive and fun.
