Esperanza Health Centers are a series of health centers serving the neighborhoods of Pilsen and Little Village on Chicago’s Southwest Side formed in part to address the lack of accessible health services previously available in the area. The first center, located on South California Avenue, opened in 2004 and was named Esperanza, the Spanish word for “hope.”

In part of their service to these communities, Esperanza Health Centers provides bilingual, high quality primary care, behavioral health and wellness services to the community, regardless of immigration statues, insurance status, or ability to pay.

Esperanza Health Centers expanded and now includes four sites in Little Village (South Lawndale), Marquette Park (Chicago Lawn), and Brighton Park, the latter of which opened in May 20, 2019, to serve an additional 20,000 patients each year.

Women Deliver is a global organization that advocates for gender equality and the health and rights of girls and women. They work with local and global organizations to increase awareness of gender equality and women’s sexual and reproductive health as well as rights during emergencies and their aftermaths. The organization has collaborated with a wide range of partners to drive their advocacy, one of which was creating the Deliver for Good campaign, a global coalition that applies a gender lens to the Sustainable Development Goals. Women Deliver, another outreach, uses evidence, advocacy, and communication to make the case that investing in girls, women, and gender equality is the right thing to do.

Every three years, the organization meets at the global Women Deliver Conference where members of different sectors of governments from private and international agencies work alongside advocates, activists, and journalists to identify solutions and drive change for gender equality around the world.

The second Women Deliver Conference took place on June 7-9, 2010, in Washington, D.C. 3,400 advocates, policymakers, development leaders, health care professionals, youth, and media from 146 countries converged in the conference and more than 800 speeches and presentations were given at the six plenaries and 120 breakout sessions. The heads of five U.N. agencies plus the Secretary-General were represented at the conference. Thirty countries, U.N. agencies, the World Bank, corporations, and foundations helped support Women Deliver.

Founded in 1872 under the name, "Astor Library", the New York Public Library did not expand to more than a few locations until the early 1900s when Andrew Carnegie funded the construction of 65 branches, including the Main Branch in Midtown. The NYPL is the second largest library system in America, smaller than only the Library of Congress. Despite this, the library has struggled to sustain funding throughout the years, leading to the founding of the Committee to Save the NYPL, which was founded to fight the planned removal of the stacks in the Main Branch. This was eventually abandoned. The Main Branch is distinguished by the two stone lions that flank its entrance, nicknamed "Patience" and "Fortitude". They, along with the building itself were declared historical landmarks in 1967.

In 2009-2011, Celtic Woman did a tour for their sixth album, Songs from the Heart. The tour initially consisted of a North American run, which was extended into the summer due to overwhelming popular demand and added visits to Canada and Australia in 2010. The fan community at the Celtic Woman Forum created buttons to celebrate the group’s first tour to Australia.

Celtic Woman was formed in 2004 by established singers Chloë Agnew, Órla Fallon, Lisa Kelly. Méav Ní Mhaolchatha and fiddler Máiréad Nesbit completing the line-up. The group gave their first live performance at the Helix theatre in Dublin in 2004, organized by PBS. The group’s first album featured readings of a range of traditional and contemporary Irish ballads, which became a major commercial success in the USA.

Additional Information

Cleveland Swings was launched in the late 1990s as a clearinghouse for information for the Northeast Ohio swing community after clothing company GAP’s commercial advertisement featuring swing dancers and a renewal of radio hits for swing music, i.e. Zoot Suit Riot, brought swing dance back into the spotlight. The site would post information about dances and teachers. In early 2000, the site was turned into an online community for swing dance enthusiasts and the Cleveland swing community. The site once featured a message board, interactive calendar, and served as a place for swing enthusiasts to meet, connecting on and off the dance floor.

With social media becoming more popular and used as a method to communicate with the others, doing much of what Cleveland Swings once did, the site was closed down. Currently, there is still a list of teachers, regular dances and classes, and Facebook groups for view on the site.

The lyrics, “traveled down the road and back again,” are from The Golden Girls’ theme song, “Thank You for Being a Friend,” written by Andrew Gold and performed by Cynthia Fee. The Golden Girls was a television sitcom series that first aired on September 14, 1985. It ran for almost 7 years, ending with its final episode on May 9, 1992. The Golden Palace was an unsuccessful spin-off that was cancelled after only one season on the air. Besides Bea Arthur, it starred the same cast as the original with Betty White, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty all reprising their roles in the single season. The Golden Girls received critical acclaim and was an NBC hit. The show won many awards, including American Comedy Awards, ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards, BMI Film & TV Awards, Directors Guild of America Awards, Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, TV Land Awards, Viewers for Quality Television Awards, Writers Guild of America awards, Young Artist Awards, and others. Even after its original run on television, The Golden Girls continued to receive recognition and popularity.
