The Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) serves the city of Los Angeles, with a total of 73 branches spread throughout the city. LAPL has over 11 million cardholders and millions of materials; library programs serve thousands of users.

This is a variation of the I heart NY logo that was created in 1977 by Milton Glaser for an ad campaign created by advertising agency Wells Rich Greene. The marketing campaign was sought by then-Deputy Commissioner William S. Doyle to increase tourism in the state of New York. The campaign was a wild success. The original sketch of the logo is permanently on display at the MOMA.

The logo has become iconic in pop-culture and has been imitated in many forms around the world.

Jesus Christ is one of the important religious figures of Christianity, part of the holy trinity, and a pillar of the Christian faith for whom Christians base their attitudes and actions on. Jesus also holds reverence as a prophet in Islam. According to a combination of Christian and historic sources, Jesus of Nazareth was conceived from a virgin birth and was appointed as a messiah. Jesus traveled and spread the word of his new religion, which beliefs split from traditional Judaism. During this journey, he performed several miracles such as healing the sick, walking on water, and turning water into wine.

His actions were not appreciated by all, and the Romans controlling the region captured him. Under orders from Pontius Pilate, he was crucified. Miraculously, Jesus performed one more miracle and resurrected. He is an important figure in the Western world and his birthday is celebrated as Christmas, and resurrection as Easter. The life of Jesus is recorded in the New Testament of the Bible. During the 1990's and 2000's, a popular phrase, What Would Jesus Do, was worn by Christians as a reminder to live life with kindness and love like Jesus had preached about. Many Christians are proud to wear and display symbols of their faith.

Additional Information

The dog (Canis lupus familiaris) is a subspecies of the gray wolf (Canis lupus). Along with the cat, it is one of the most popular and omnipresent domestic animals in the world. It has become a hunting companion, a protector, and a friend.

Although the exact dates are uncertain, dogs are believed to have first been domesticated starting around 30,000 years ago. This domestication was not a single event, but a slow process unfolding over thousands of years. Dogs probably assisted their own domestication by following nomadic people for the scraps they left behind. Over time, selective breeding for various desirable traits would produce more than 400 unique breeds.

Additional Information

The slogan "Virginia is for lovers" is one of the most successful advertising campaigns ever created. It was designed by David N. Martin and George Wolz of Richmond, Virginia. The original concept was to have separate slogans for all of the different areas of VA tourism, such as Virginia is for Beach Lovers and Virginia is for History Lovers. In order to ensure that all areas of the state were being represented, the decision was made to use one slogan: Virginia is for Lovers. The slogan embraced the "feel good" emotions of the time. It first appeared as the official tourism and travel slogan of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the March 1969 issue of Modern Bride. In 2009 the phrase was inducted into the Madison Avenue Advertising Walk of ame and the Advertising Icon Museum.

While there were hundreds of circuses worldwide, only one was marketed as “the Greatest Show on Earth”. The Ringling Brothers purchased the Barnum and Bailey Greatest Show on Earth circus in 1907. Initially the two shows were run separately but by 1919 the shows were combined and debuted in New York as the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Combined Shows. The Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus performed under the big top until July 16, 1956. The cost of moving the equipment, combined with declining ticket sales, forced the managers to shift the circus to indoor locations.

After over 110 years, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey circus had its last performance in Uniondale, New York on May 21, 2017.

A loaded brick hod is a supply for masons or builders. The hod carrier, or hoddie, loads the hod with bricks and carries it to the bricklayers/masons. Usually one hoddie supplies two masons.

In January 1903, a group of Saratoga, New York, painters and paper hangers gave notice that they would strike on April 1 for shorter hours and higher wages. Thirty bricklayers and masons joined them in striking. The strike worked for both professions. The painters and paper hangers got an 8 hour day for $2.375, and the brick layers got a 9 hour day for 45c per hour. They were not the only strikers. The Indianapolis Journal reported the Saratoga strike in an article describing construction strikes across the nation, all happening on April 1, 1903.
