The Duquesne Incline is a cable railway system in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Originally built to carry cargo up and down Mount Washington in the late 19th century, the Duquesne Incline now carries passengers up and down the steep slope. It is a popular tourist destination and is one of the few inclines that remain open and operational in the area. The Incline climbs to a 400-foot elevation over a track length of 794 feet. The Duquesne Incline is a funicular railway. These unique railway systems use two vehicles or cars that move synchronously on one cable that rotates through a pulley located at the top of a slope. The two cars counterbalance one another – as one vehicle ascends the inclined track the other descends.

Guests at Santa’s Workshop in North Pole, N.Y. are given the title of Santa's Visitor. Santa’s Workshop is a theme park in the Adirondack Park that first opened in 1949. It is one of the first 3 theme parks to open in the U.S. and is the oldest still in operation. The idea for the park started with a Lake Placid businessman after he told his daughter a story of a bear who found Santa Claus and the North Pole. His daughter wanted to visit the North Pole as well. The site chosen was near Whiteface Mountain, just North East of Lake Placid in Wilmington, NY. Santa’s Workshop allows kids to live out their dreams to meet Santa and visit the North Pole. When it first opened, there were live goats, deer, and sheep that wandered freely, making it the first petting zoo as well. The free-range animals are gone however there are still live reindeer that pull Santa’s sled. There are also still costumed characters such as Frosty the Snowman, Little Red Riding Hood, Alice in Wonderland, Rowdy the Reindeer, and Chris Moose. There are some rides and attractions as well as an arcade and musical shows and a parade. There is a post office on site, and the U.S Post Office gave the North Pole its own zip code—12946. The main attraction is meeting Santa, feeding his reindeer, and even touch the frozen North Pole. Santa’s Workshop is open in the summer for tourists to visit and Santa gives daily decrees and a magical flight through the woods on his sleigh at his summer home in the Adirondacks.

Michigander is one of the unofficial terms used to describe a resident of the U.S. state of Michigan. The term “Michigander” is attributed to Abraham Lincoln, who is said to have invented the word in 1848 in reference to Lewis Cass, the governor of the Michigan territory at the time. Lincoln opposed presidential candidate Cass and his campaign platform of “popular sovereignty,” which would allow states that had been conquered in the Mexican-American War to decide whether they wanted to make slavery legal. Abraham Lincoln referred to Lewis Cass as a “Michigander” in a speech, in an attempt to portray Cass as a foolish goose, or gander. Because of its origin, some Michigan residents view the term as offensive, although many do not. A 2011 poll showed that 58% of Michigan residents prefer the term Michigander over other Michigan resident terms such as Michiganian, Michiganer, Michiganite, Michiganese, and Michigine.
