Daisy Duck is the girlfriend of Donald Duck and best friend of Minnie Mouse. An early and short-lived version of Daisy was Donna Duck, Donald’s romantic interest in the 1937 short Don Donald. A few years later, the character of Daisy was introduced in the 1940 Mr. Duck Steps Out, and while her look has evolved over the years, she is often shown to be wearing high heels, a large bow, and a bangle. Like Donald, Daisy is known to have a temper, though hers is more muted.

Daisy was the last character introduced of the “sensational six,” Disney’s core crew of characters featuring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto, and Daisy.

Looney Tunes began as animated short films from Warner Brothers in the 1930s. Cartoonist and animator Chuck Jones began working on the existing entity under the director of Warner’s animation team in 1935, and over the years Jones expanded on characters like Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig, while creating all new characters such as Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner, both debuting in 1949. Wile E. Coyote was a self-proclaimed super genius, known for trying to come up with traps–often involving explosives–to capture the elusive roadrunner, with humorously disastrous (for himself) results. The button promoting Wile E. Coyote for President is one of several presidential campaign buttons, including for the characters Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.

“We are hikers, not pikers” was a phrase coined by “General” Rosalie Jones during the women’s suffrage movement in the United States in the early twentieth century. In 1912, she led a group of over two hundred marchers 170 miles from Manhattan to Albany to meet with then New York Governor William Sulzer. The “hikers” held meetings throughout the route and the march was covered by many reporters, garnering attention for the women’s suffrage movement.

By the end of her film career, she had starred in 14 short films, 43 feature films, and over 25 storybook movies. Many of Temple’s films were released during The Great Depression, and the young girl’s bright personality brought positivity to Americans experiencing economic hardship.

Later in life, Temple left the film industry to pursue a career in politics and diplomacy. After an unsuccessful run for Congress, she was appointed to the U.S. delegation for the United Nations’ General Assembly and went on to serve as an ambassador to Ghana and the former Czechoslovakia.

Additional Information

New Kids on the Block (NOKTB) was formed in the early 1980s in Boston, Massachusetts by producer Maurice Starr, who had previously worked with the Boston-based group New Edition. NKOTB is considered one of the first modern boy bands, helping to pave the way for late 1990s groups like Backstreet Boys and NSYNC. Donnie Wahlberg was just 15 when Starr discovered him, impressed with his rapping. Wahlberg recruited his friends Danny Wood and brothers Jordan and Jonathon Knight. NKTOB's fifth member, Joey McIntyre was discovered by Starr and just 12 when he joined the group. While their first album was a commercial and flop, NKOTB's second album (released in 1988) soared up pop charts thanks in large part to a radio station in Florida giving airplay to the album's first single.

By the early 1990s, the New Kids on the Block had become one of the most popular musical groups in the United States with a growing fanbase made up primarily of girls and young women; their official fan club that had over 200,000 members, one of the largest ever in the US. Fans often identified one particular group member as their favorite, and collected branded merchandise featuring that member, exemplified here with a button proclaiming the wearer "Danny's Girl."

The group disbanded in 1995 to work on other projects before reuniting again in 2008. Since then, NKOTB has had multiple reunion tours and even released a new album in 2024. In 2025, the group launched a multiple-month residency in Las Vegas a the Park MGM with a show that blends their classic hits with typical Vegas-style showmanship.
