Throughout the 1960s, Snoopy began to interact with yellow birds in the comics. In 1968, a particular yellow bird named Woodstock was identified as Snoopy's "buddy." Woodstock is consistently portrayed in the comics as having difficulty flying which can be used to explain why he is depicted upside down. Neither character is capable of speech. As such, they communicate through sounds and pantomime yet have no difficulty being understood by each other or other characters.

Additional Information

Lucille "Lucy" van Pelt is one of the characters in the Peanuts comic strip by Charles M. Schulz, debuting in 1952.  Characterized as "crabby" and "bossy," she is typically portrayed as bullying Charlie Brown and his friends.  She is the older sister of Linus and Rerun and is also known for her unrequited crush on Schroeder. Lucy also operates a psychiatric booth that is similar to a lemonade stand but rather she charges a nickel per psychoanalysis.

The outdated term "Gal Friday" refers to a woman who works as an assistant, especially doing secretarial and clerical work.
