Tim Butler is a British musician most famous for being a member of the band he formed with his brother, The Psychedelic Furs. The Psychedelic Furs is a rock band known for their alternative, post-punk, hard rock, and new wave sounds. The band came together during England’s emerging punk scene in 1977 with the initial line up of Richard Butler (vocals), Tim Butler (bass guitar), Paul Wilson (drums), Duncan Kilburn (saxophone), and Roger Morris (guitars). By 1979, the band grew into a sextet with the addition of another guitarist, John Asthon, and with Vince Ely replacing Wilson on drums. They released their first, self-titled album in 1980, but began gaining international success upon the release of their second album, Talk Talk Talk in 1981. The band went into an extended hiatus in the early 1990s, but began actively touring again in 2000.

Talk Talk Talk, the band’s second album, features a cover designed by Julian Balme, a prolific music album designer, alongside Richard Butler. The design was heavily influenced by the Pop Art style of Andy Warhol, which can be seen by its screen printed photographs layered with bright colors. The cover features a headshot of each of the band members taken by photographer Andrew Douglass. On the album cover, Tim Butler’s headshot is layered with bright purple paint.
