Abbey Carpet & Floor specializes in “floor covering” products and owns 800 showrooms in the United States and Canada. The company, located in Hawthorne, New Jersey, was established in 1959. Every Abbey Carpet & Floor showroom is locally owned, which provides a more personable experience to buyers. The company offers different types of carpet, hardwood, laminate, tile/stone, vinyl, and area rugs for floors, as well as different window treatments. Abbey Carpet & Floor uses the catchphrase “Naked floors are obscene,” which is featured on their company delivery van from the 1970s.

Naked flooring is commonly used to describe untreated or raw hardwood flooring. When installing hardwood floors, buyers must choose between ordering pretreated wood or untreated wood. The untreated wood is treated after installation. In this case, naked flooring has a more relative meaning for this company and plays on the fact the company specializes in “floor covering” products.

Are you part of the Todd Squad? Louis J. “Todd” Hollenbach III of Louisville, Kentucky certainly hoped so! Native Kentuckian Hollenbach served two terms as a Jefferson County Judge from 1970-1978, and unsuccessfully ran for Kentucky governor in 1975, losing in the Democratic primary. Though this badge was used for the 1973 re-election campaign, Hollenbach used the “Todd Squad” slogan in many aspects of his life, not just on political materials. While serving as County Judge, his softball squad of fellow Jefferson County politicians was nicknamed the “Todd Squad.”

Tim Butler is a British musician most famous for being a member of the band he formed with his brother, The Psychedelic Furs. The Psychedelic Furs is a rock band known for their alternative, post-punk, hard rock, and new wave sounds. The band came together during England’s emerging punk scene in 1977 with the initial line up of Richard Butler (vocals), Tim Butler (bass guitar), Paul Wilson (drums), Duncan Kilburn (saxophone), and Roger Morris (guitars). By 1979, the band grew into a sextet with the addition of another guitarist, John Asthon, and with Vince Ely replacing Wilson on drums. They released their first, self-titled album in 1980, but began gaining international success upon the release of their second album, Talk Talk Talk in 1981. The band went into an extended hiatus in the early 1990s, but began actively touring again in 2000.

Talk Talk Talk, the band’s second album, features a cover designed by Julian Balme, a prolific music album designer, alongside Richard Butler. The design was heavily influenced by the Pop Art style of Andy Warhol, which can be seen by its screen printed photographs layered with bright colors. The cover features a headshot of each of the band members taken by photographer Andrew Douglass. On the album cover, Tim Butler’s headshot is layered with bright purple paint.
